Setting and influencing the dice roll is just part of the picture. To beat the dice you have to know how to bet the dice. Whether you call it a "system," a "strategy," or just a way to play - this is the place to discuss it.
. . . and while I can't argue with you regarding the house edge on the Pass and Come bets . . . I'm from the "I'd rather Place or Buy it" camp. That doesn't mean I don't put things on auto pilot with continuious Come bets with odds from time to time, but I will almost always have a profit locked up before engaging in that strategy.
The reason I prefer Place Betting to Come Betting with odds has to do with short run volatility. It's lower if you Place Bet with a regression IMHO. Long run - no question about it. Come betting with odds out-performs place betting.
Pointman, it depends whether you factor a comeout 12 (a push) as a "result" of your bet (1.36%), or if you disregard it since you win/lose nothing on it (1.40%)
.
Some players ALWAYS make ANY CRAPS or THREE WAY CRAPS or a HORN BET with the explaination they are "insuring " the PASS LINE BET from loss to a CRAPS #( 2-3-12 ) on the COME OUT.....
Insurance is REALLY BIG BUSINESS.
Arguments are made over how much "insurance" is wise or if one is better to "SELF INSURE"
In this century with way plenty 5 X 10 X 20 X and even greater ODDS so available, I M O ,the validity of spending $$$$ or CHIPS should you prefer seems far more a gamble than smart gaming.
One roll bets give the winner the PRIDE OF VICTORY. However if we are truely accountable for the money " invested" in the " insurance" of all those one roll bets over a decade of serious craps playing, we may decide that insurance could have been better spent....... Early in life I learned that arguing with drunks was not worth getting into. The downside of the PROP BET discussion is those engaging in the CHRISTMAS TREE of PROP BETS too often become other than rational......
Bottom line folks may choose to blow their BANK ROLL any way they select.
Pointman asked: If this is true, do any of you do this? Assuming your betting on a RR.
Then switch to positive on yourself/ other DI's?
I try to stay off of Random Rollers as long as possible and then make small bets..
The differences between 1.36%, 1.41%, and 1.52% are small on a small bet. I prefer to pick my poison, so Place a 6 or 8(or both) and only spread out on an extended roll. This is only after getting my initial bet plus a profit in my rack. Others prefer to let the dice make the choice and use the Come Bet. If you are a Don't player, Don't Come is available.
