Consistency

The forum name says it all. You're new to the game of craps and don't have a clue where to begin. Pass Line. Don't Pass. Come. Don't Come. Hardways. Big Six. Big Eight. The Horn. Good Grief! Sounds like back when you were trying to make a decision about what to do in the back seat on that first car date. Well never fear! There are a few folks around here who have spent enough time at the tables to be able to answer just about any question you may have. So step right up and get a clue!

Consistency

Post by fmholdover » Mon Mar 17, 2025 6:06 am

I was wondering about roll consistency when throwing dice, I practice my throw mostly using the hardways set , but I dont hit a ton of hardways , mostly due to single pitch ,Id say maybe one in 6 or 1 in 8 will be a hardway, sometimes more, sometimes less. Ive thrown back to back Hardways 4 times in a row before but since I cant replicate it , I consider it a fluke. I was wondering how consistent a expert shooter could throw a hardway . I wanted to hit it one out of three throws, but Im no where near that, Is that unrealistic ?

I tend to hit the 6 and eight approximately 1 out of 3, one out of 4 times using the 3V set . My dice look pretty good in the air as far as I can tell , sometimes they looked glued if I do it right, the rest are fairly close together but sometimes on a what looks like a perfect throw , I pop a seven. Huh?

another issue I have is that my throws dont translate to the casino table. both are hard but the casino table the dice like to dance a little more , a little more lively . it sucks trying to ajust when Im playing for real , Sometimes I come in light , minimum passline bet and see how it goes but then I have to wait until the dice come back to try an ajustment , might work, might not , try again.

But anyway, I would like to know what a an expert throwers expectation is to hit his numbers . I dont want to set impossible goals like hitting the hardway every throw . I would like to hit it 1 out of 3 throws but I dont know if thats realistic or not.

In my seminars I always talk about the Three C's of a good grip and toss. It has to be comfortable. It has to give you control. And it has to deliver consistently. Consistently at the same arc, the same number of rotations, the same vector, the same speed, and the same landing zone. The landing zone is critical. You have to be able to nail the same spot on the table with the same toss over and over and over. I'd say 90% of DI's cannot do that. It's the number one fail when I see shooters at the table. Their tosses will LOOK great, but their landing zones are all over the place. Get that part down and you're on your way.

I have to say your correct , Im always shifting my zones , looking for the sweet spot. I throw with a low arch, soft toss and my best lZ's are either 1 inch from the wall or about 12 . killing the energy of the throw early and landing next to the wall. the higher archs are hit and miss for me . the dice seem to go wild at the casino if I throw high. Its a hard table, but it has some bounce to it , its not dead
