Laying a number(or the point) as part of DC strategy?

My question is a bit specific to this side of the pond as our vig on lay bets is different to yours.
So, I started playing a few DCs recently and was getting a touch frustrated at times by losing on PSO hands. Then I remembered other stuff I had read about skipping the CO roll, laying the point/laying a number and then betting a DC. That way if there is a PSO you probably end up with a push - though it depends on how you size your bets.
Seems to me that an effective way of doing this is to lay the 4 or 10 and make a DC bet. That way if you do get knocked off your lay, then at least your DC travels to a least likely box number. Not great if the 4 or 10 does hit initially, but at least you are a big fav to come back with a small loss from the series, though of course I know there will be plenty of times when you lose twice on the 4 or 10 to the same shooter. Such is life.....
Now for you chaps over there the vig on this lay is 2.44%, but over here, a lay of 4 or 10 for me is 3.03%. The lowest vig on my table is 1.82% on laying the 6 or 8.
Given these numbers, how would you play things? Carry on laying a 4 or 10, or go for what looks a sounder mathematical approach by laying a 6 or 8, even if that means your DC travels to a most likely box number should your initial lay get knocked off?
