Newbie Craps Player

Post by fullb0at » Tue Jun 14, 2022 5:58 pm

Took up Craps about 6 months ago, watching You-Tube and trying to learn me some Craps. My roll has improved somewhat, the wife let me build a practice throwing tale instead of a full size one. Most of the time I can roll 4-6 rolls and then "POS" out. My first big roll, Sunday at ilani the casino in So West Washington, I was on the end straight-out and threw for about an hour and some minutes. I had to go relieve myself and when I got back, the table was cheering for me to get back to roll some more. Rolled 10 rolls then POS. Everyone made money but me, still new and learning about betting.

Nothing like a hand so long that the shooter has to go take a piss break. LOL. I was on a table at Harrah's in Atlantic City one day when this happened. The guy must have had to take a dump while he was at it because he was gone for about ten minutes. The pit was tapping his watch, saying he was going to give him ONE MORE MINUTE when he came sprinting across the casino floor back to the table. Not much of a hand after that sprint, either.

Welcome to the forum. Feel free to ask any questions you may have. If you have the question - someone else does too. They're just too chicken to ask.

He wasnt the shooter but there was a newbie on the table the other night in the hook. I had been helping him with bets and ?s he had. I switched with a buddy to SL1 so i could toss. Only a 20 roll but long due to center action and bets on the other end. I switched back and my buddy went on a tear (45 tosses) in the middle i noticed the newbie quit asking questions and was getting fidgety. Finally he said what if i have to go piss? I said you can just go they will pay your bets and i will watch your chips. Young guy maybe 20 and he was off like spider man and back before i could have got to the restroom. My buddy was still tossing.

Fullboat, welcome to APC and the Forum! We've all been caught with our boat full......lol couldn't resist....

Generally I always "go" before the buy-in as I want to also wash and dry my hands and fingers, as keeping fingers dry is super important for a good toss.

Lot's of great info here, browse around and see, DN8R

Fullboat, welcome to the forum.

From someone that took up craps late in life and has only been playing a very short time.
I highly recommend taking a class with Heavy. You will get help on your toss. I also would take his betting class. It will help you get money off the table.
There is all all kinds of help in the forum and a group of people here that will be glad to help you on your journey.

Thanks for the endorsement. Funny thing. Yesterday I had about a 2 hour phone conversation with one of my former students who racks up over $100K a year at the tables. No shit. We talked a lot about craps in general and the classes we do in particular. His main comment? We should flip the classes around and on Day One we should focus on Betting Strategies and work on Dice Control on Day Two. Why? Because in his opinion (and mine for that matter) you can be the best shooter in the world but if you don't know how to bet you'll still lose money - and most people don't know how to bet. This guy plays a strategy I taught him. It's a three-hit and regress play so that all of his bets are paid for after two hits and he has a $100 plus profit after the regression - plus $280 action on the table. Then he uses a pre-planned press strategy with multiple step regressions. Now, I taught him this play at the $30 - $25 level. He plays it at the $300 - $250 level. But the math works out the same - the only thing he's done is add a zero.

Those of you who have taken my class over the last couple of years are familiar with that pyramid of chips I set up in the middle of the table at the start of the class to talk about SRR, the Mean and the Average toss length for SRR's of 6, 7, and 8. It's an easy bridge from that to get into betting strategies for an SRR of - say 8.0, which is a reasonable stretch objective for you guys. After all, we have several BoneTracker Advanced clients whose SRR's are in the 9's, so we KNOW you can do better.

Anyway, I'm seriously giving thought to flipping the classes around so that we run the Advanced Betting Class FIRST on Saturday Morning, then after lunch we start the DI portion of the training and we wrap up the DI training on Sunday morning. Instead of charging separate prices for the two classes we'll just build the pricing in for a one-price class. More on that after I discuss it with the other coaches and get their thoughts.

Nice trip report! I've been wanting to try the tables at Ilani.

I had a similar thing happen to me at the Snoqualmie Casino...throwing straight out for a long time (hour or so?) when I was new to craps, the guy at SR2 must have made a lot on my roll...he tossed me a $175 tip & several green chips throughout my roll.

mrjam3s That never happened to me on that long roll, a couple of tips would have been nice, all I had was a black chip walking away!

We'd love to have you in a betting class, as it would give you a chance to "see and hear" the bets in action and that's how most people learn. But I've covered all of my betting strategies here on the forum and in my FaceBook groups at one time or another so they are there for free if you want to study them. The KEY is to play to the math of the game, which means taking an early steep regression to put yourself into a profit position as early as possible in each hand. Then take an additional profit before pressing. After that, use an orderly, pre-planned press strategy that suits your bankroll, sevens risk tolerance level, and the results you're getting on that table on that day.

Rodger,

If you are new into your DI journey, trying to tackle Bone Tracker right now is probably a bit premature. At the start of your learning about DI, I would focus first on refining your toss a bit and learning about the principles of what DI and an influenced toss is all about. If your toss is flawed, then BT is not going to be a magic bullet that will cure everything. You have to crawl before you can run.

How long have you been playing the game and/or attempting an influenced toss? Have you had any training or what is your exposure to any sort of education on the principles of DI?
