See a 4 or 10 , Lay a 4 or 10 and.........

Setting and influencing the dice roll is just part of the picture. To beat the dice you have to know how to bet the dice. Whether you call it a "system," a "strategy," or just a way to play - this is the place to discuss it.

See a 4 or 10 , Lay a 4 or 10 and.........

Has anyone seen a strategy in a book where the player waits for a 4 or 10 to show then , Lay that number for $40 (4 or 10) and also place three inside numbers for $17 (either 5,6,8 or 6,8,9), then take one hit on a placed number and bring every thing down ?

Of course, on a Seven-out you win $2 ( $19-$17). This assumes paying the vig only on a win.

And a repeat 10 or 4 ,before a place bet hit ,means you have lost $40.

I've never seen that in a book but we used to see a guy at Cherokee playing something similar. He would bet both pass/don't pass then lay $500 odds if it was a 4 or 10 for one roll. If the seven didn't show he'd pick up the odds and wait for an outside number to show. Then he'd lay that number for one roll. So his strategy depended on a seven out after an outside number and never a repeating outside number. I watched him play many times and never saw him lose. I'm sure he did lose, but not when I was watching. At other times I've seen five 9s back to back. We all know it happens. The likely and the unlikely all happen sometimes. I think most of these "place for one roll" strategies work about as often as the odds dictate. If you only place a bet once every 15 minutes it can really stretch out your session.

BINGO!

The less you expose your money... the more it APPEARS that your strategy is beating the odds, simply because you have stretched out the exposure vs time part of the equation. FS leveraged the notion of the "5-count" into the status of urban myth based on this principle.

Exactly. Using the 5 count you are absolutely guaranteed never to get spanked by a PSO. 10 PSOs in a row and you have lost nothing. Conversely if there are ten 6-roll hands in a row you're gonna get clobbered. Much of it comes down to how you measure success. $ won/lost per hand or $ won/lost per hour.

I personally don't like any strategy that uses a lay 4 or 10 for a hedge. There are times where it works great but there are also times when the 4/10 come in bunches. It doesn't take many repeats on the 4/10 to clobber a session using this plan.

I've tried this strategy and many variations over the years and just like anything else, there are times it will work but I've pretty much abandoned them because they are very frustrating to play. I liked the concept of these strategies because risk of large losses is small but most of the time they just leak money slowly from the bankroll and session wins were almost always small.

DF, it seems like you have branched out a bit from your cow-tippin' strategy? Are you looking for a right side strategy to add to your repertoire?

No rightside strategy for me.

I just saw a guy playing that way recently and was curious if anyone had seen it in print. The guy colored up soon after I bought in and from the way he talked to the dealer he had been down a good bit and had gotten back to even.

I am like you, I don`t see how anyone could lay the 4 or 10 or any number with any success.

We are going back to Laughlin for a few days in June so that I can walk on a trail in the desert form Laughlin to Davis Dam. Gail says I will probably get heat stroke.

If I see a four or ten tossed I'm much more likely to buy the four and ten than to lay it. Here's why. Three ways to make the four. Three ways to make the ten. That's six ways to win. How many ways are there to lose? Six. If you win on either one it pays 2 - 1 less the vig, at which point both bets are essentially paid for. That gives you a 50/50 chance of winning on one of those numbers - with essentially $1 (the vig you paid) at risk. I will risk $1 to win $50 on what is essentially a coin flip bet any day of the week. Of course, you have to get that first win in - but I think it's worth the risk when the fours and tens are showing.

ive played this way before except only placed 6/8 so was a 6/7/8 play

you win $7 any hit and down..

i first played it while on a cruise and wifey wanted to do something i would say give me 5 mins and then lay 320 on 4 or 10.. 48 on 6/8 for a 1 hit $56 win

won the first few times then that 5 min turned into an hour to chase my loss(ES) :(

if you can influence away from a 4/10 i still think its a great play

I gave this strategy (and several variations) a pretty good go when I first got into DI, first at home then the casinos. I loved the idea of making the 7 my friend and the 4 the bad guy. One minor issue is that you lose the dice when the 7 shows. Not a big deal if you can play on emptier tables. The major problem is that when the 4 (or 10 pops if you prefer that number) it took very few of them to reach my loss limit for the session. Despite the fact that the 4 shows less often and I used preferred sets to minimize the appearance of the 4 I did not have good luck with this strategy. It worked better at home (due to more trials) but I struggled in the casino, due to negative variance. The 4 just like the 7 is streaky and I had to walk too many times when I hit my loss limit so I gave this strategy up. I like to have ample room to grind back my losses when you hit the inevitable bad streak and this strategy just didn't allow it.

I did this In Vegas on my recent trip towards the end of my trip.....and like a lot of things it works for awhile or sometimes,
I played around with it a little either laying the 4 or the 10 or sometimes both, (i know that give me more ways to lose)
$44 inside lay the 4 for $80 i would leave everything up for 2 or 3 hits then hope for a 7 out or take the lay down also and wait.

One particular very bad hand went like this... a random shooter hit the 4, then the 10 and you know what came next right? The 7 that hand sucked real bad… but I was still able to make money on that session when I parlayed a hard 6 into $90 and laying the 4 again worked out for me.

At another casino i did the same thing.... the dealer booking my bets told me he likes this Strategy and he played the same way for the whole month one month but for more money.... he was Asian and hard to understand but i believe he told me he would lay $800 on the 4 and go $440 inside for one hit.. he'd the use the money to bet one horses he did get whacked for -$800 towards the end of the month but was still a winner.
