And THAT, my friends, is one of the main reasons Maddog GIVES BoneTracker away instead of charging for it. With that said . . . he sure does provide a lot of support gratis. One of these days we're going to have to set up a Maddog/BoneTracker Toke Box.

Here's a thought for what it is worth. Maybe Freak and Maddog could combine their skills and ideas in the further development of this product? Better a half loaf than no loaf.

This would start happening right as I switched from iphone to Android!
A thought on the left - right thing. Instead of adding buttons for the left right switch, why not set it up so that holding a button for say, 2 seconds switches the orientation? So if you hold the 3-1 down it changes to 1-3. You could set it to toggle back and forth every 2 seconds in case someone "accidentally" holds it down too long. Obviously it would still require programming but it would save precious screen real estate. Also, people are already used to holding down a key to make it change to another option, so it would be user friendly.

Yup... that and the fact that it was something I was doing for myself and sharing it with the community seemed like the right thing to do in terms of paying-back for all the knowledge I had learned through our group. Besides, it is just a spreadsheet that anyone could (and should) create to track their development and progress. I probably went a bit farther then most, but between the RollData and Stats screens you have just about everything you need. The rest is just fun stuff.

I never could find the designs I had put together for another guy that was looking into doing an IPhone tracking app. I took a few minutes to redraw the following mock-up.



This is just a napkin sketch, but it shows the basic idea of a potential screen for tracking left/right toss results.

One could also employ a toggle that would switch between recording the Left/Right die, to simply recording the end result like the following:

I really wish I knew how to program this for a iPhone. I'd love to have it on mine. Unfortunately this is a little above my head. Maybe someone can work out a simple usable model.

Indie, that first one is an especially good idea! Having an electronic Log Book on your phone would be a useful tool and eliminate the need to carry around a notepad. Might get folks to really take the logging seriously.

Electronic roll tracking at the table is a non-starter. Just won't fly with the casino/casino-security. For roll tracking, you would have to do what Freak is doing which is record rolls on your notepad, then transfer the rolls to your phone later, away from the table. Although you could use it directly at your home practice table, which would be handy.

And even though an electronic Players-Log-Book would have the same restriction, setting up your session before buy-in and recording your end-time and color amounts after the session would be straight forward.

I've done a little research into building a app. It definitely seems to be way above my head!!. It appears the only way that you can get a app onto a Iphone is by purchasing a developers license for $100 a year.

Is that what you did Freak or is there a way around this?

Actually, I have a lot of experience in a program (I'm leaving the exact program intentionally unnamed for now...please don't ask) that I used on my mac for the last 20 years. I discovered it has a small version available for iPhone that opens the file there. It doesn't allow creation or changes or downloading to excel from the iPhone but as a combo it's a pretty good solution for me personally. Unfortunately, the iPhone version only works in the newest app version which I don't own. So I've been programming in a trial version that I downloaded last month and now that trial has expired. So to continue even just for myself I have to decide if I want to pay to get the developing app. ($200 - $500 depending on the exact flavor I want to pony up for).

There are a lot of pros and cons. I love having the data, but recording the data sometimes feels like work. I wonder some days if I'd be happier to just play and not record the rolls. I do miss that freedom. And we haven't had a nice big win since I started recording. In fairness though, I started recording as a way to keep me from getting so emotionally invested in the money part of the game. Losses were tearing me up. I'm willing to risk the $ to play the game, I know that going in and I've accepted it. But when the actual loss occurs I get angry and depressed. Tracking is a good way for me to diffuse that disappointment. It gives me a place to put the energy. But now I wonder if all the tracking is a distraction to my shooting and betting strategies. Hard to say. The best roll I ever had was when I was tracking and I wrote every one of my 37 rolls for myself. It gave me focus and put me in the zone. And the most we ever lost in a weekend was done when tracking and only betting on ourselves. So the objective evidence says tracking has no effect.

I really don't know what will happen, or even what I WANT to happen with roll tracker right now. I just know that I like it and will probably keep tracking rolls. If I get a big win I might buy the app and continue development. For now development is paused.
