The MadProfessor seems to think that Riviera is more tolerant of DIs and all. Therefore it might be worth tolerating the "Poor attitude" of their dealers.

Given a $5 table at the Riviera, and their increasingly tolerant stance towards winners in general, and dicesetters in particular; how would you play the Riv’s 1000x-Odds offering?

Last time I played there I got barked at as soon as I started setting the dice. Considering its reputation as a grind joint I didn't bother to go back. I suspect this move is one of desperation, one that will be followed in the months to come with them filing for reorganization or some such thing, following their neighbor, the Sahara, down the tubes.

I stayed at the Riviera once (didn't make that mistake again) back in the mid-80's, right after they filed their FIRST bankruptcy. Yes, that was an adventure. I actually moved out of the Riviera and over to the Westward Ho on my last trip there - back in the days of the Ho Dog. The Stardust and the New Frontier were neighbors, back before demolition took its toll on that part of the strip. The Riv filed for bankruptcy the THIRD time in July of last year. Looks to me like they're getting desperate to drive some traffic into an area no one is interested in going to.

By the way, here's one of the reasons there's no traffic in the Riv's neighborhood.

1st trip on my own to Vegas was to the Riv with a college buddy. 6 days and 5 nights for $129 total, not per night. Gamble all night, sleep late, drink at the pool until dinner time, nap and rinse and repeat. That was the trip I got hooked on craps and turned my last $100 in to $2,700 when I shot for an hour or so. Ahhh! Those were the days of youth.

The Riviera held an attitude akin to the LOW BUDGET CRAPS JOINTS Little Caesars and Silver City

Have not found a reason to be on that property in over fifteen years...........

This Autumn,should my schedule allow,I may give them a little of my action .

People talk , s-o-0-0 table games & dealers aside, not certain about eating in that place.

However comparing apples to avocados, if there is an non hassled O K game,.............

Perhaps some of the Sin City locals will post about Riviera.....

STAY AWAY FROM THE RIVIERA

According to the craps survey on the Wizard of Vegas, they no longer offer 1000x odds.

I lost $1500 in an hour there one time, and they wouldn't even give me a $5 food comp.

They said "we don't do comps."

There were the lowest of the low of character quality and bankrolls in terms of other players. Lots of smelly people, low class people, homeless-looking people, toothless people.

It was plain disgusting being in there.

I wouldn't want to eat there anyway. Now how the heck did you lose $1500 in an hour? Just curious what your betting strategy was and how you got there.

I spent the previous week going from $100 to $1500. LOL.

There was no strategy, really. I was just gambling on low edge bets, and betting big and I lost.

Betting the lowest vig bets and losing is a subject we discuss often around here. IMHO there are basically two ways to look at betting strategies - long run and short run. Most "recreational' gamblers are strictly short run players. Long run theory really doesn't apply to them because they are not long run players. Anything can and will happen over the short run. Long run players, on the other hand, should pay close attention to their betting and stick with the bets they have an advantage over (if they are DI's) and the lowest vig bets if they have to bet them (like the PL with odds). Somewhere in the middle ground is the guy I refer to as the "serious recreational player." I am of the opinion that THAT is where most of our forum members fall. For them - a betting strategy will include sensible use of low/no vig wagers combined with bets where they have a proven advantage. Of course, then we get to the subject of "proof."

Yeah, there's a can of worms.

How did I come to these conclusions?
