Interesting article on Dr Thorp

Believe it or not, craps is not the only game in the casino. Savvy players have a back-up plan for when their craps game is off. If Heavy isn't winning at Craps you're likely to find him playing Baccarat, Blackjack, or even Roulette. If the table games aren't working out he may even take a cigar break in the high limit slot area for a little hit-and-run action. But just like craps - you have to plan your play and play your plan. If you have a question on slots, video poker, carnival games or any table games other than craps, this is the place to post. Let's hear about the games you play when you're not playing craps! What's your game? What's your strategy? How's that working out for you? Inquiring minds want to know!

Yeah, errors and misdirection. One nugget of truth:
Armed with $10,000 provided by backers who also wanted him to be proved right, “over three years, I won $25,000 at blackjack” — and got himself banned all over Nevada.
If you listen to a lot of people they'd tell you he won millions at blackjack. In fact, he won a relatively small amount, just to prove that he could. Then he was done with it. No doubt he made much more off the Beat the Dealer book.

Also, the article casually mentioned that he lived in a multi-million dollar home in Newport Beach. You can pay two million for a condo or a 2BR bungalow in Newport Beach. Three million will get you a new construction 4BR track home in some areas. I guess my point is - a multi-million dollar home in California isn't the same thing as a multi-million dollar home in the rest of the country.

Still, Thorp has done all right for himself. Math worked for him.
