John is, if my count is right, 84 years old. He's retired and living in Florida. He is in very poor health and has been told by his doctor to stay off the phone and Internet due to a critical heart condition. He was in the hospital within the last couple of weeks with a heart attack from insider reports. He's let his forum go but still runs his sports toke service via phone despite doctor's orders. He's also constantly being called by a guy who IMHO is taking advantage of John to gain endorsements for a book he's written. I emphasize that that is an opinion only and I am not stating that as a fact. This individual is also repackaging and selling John's old videos and books, I'm told, and has plans to build a website that will feature the repackaged material. All of this reportedly has John's approval. I have no idea what his financial arrangements are with John on this - or if John has taken steps to protect his intellectual property in the event of his death. I would HOPE that something is in place to keep ANYONE from profiting from John's work without a significant portion of those profits going to his estate, but again, I have no idea what's happened behind the scene there. I just know that John has suffered much over the last few years and has had a rough go of it. I wish him the best.

Thanks, Heavy, It's easy to take advantage of us older people as we age so do our minds and our ability to make rational decisions. I heard that he had died and someone sent me an obituary but it didn't have him living in Fla. I remembered that you once wrote that he did!

We keep losing all of the older players and writers. Keep up all of your good work so we will have a new generation of advantage players! Teaching and writing is an art that few can do and you are doing a fine job of it!

John's book, 'Craps' was my start to the game. I read it before I ever played. Early on I used the Patrick system successfully. His 'Advanced Craps' was next.

I learned a lot from him.

Sharpshooter's and Yuri K's books took me to the next level.

Same for me re John Patrick. Before I became a serious craps player, from his books I learned about discipline and money management and, most important, that when you win, you are not ‘playing with the house’s money, you are at all times playing with your money,’ so don’t get reckless. Best wishes to Mr. Patrick!

I bought "Advantage Craps" after having that suggested to me by a member here. Been reading it a couple chapters at a time ever couple of days. They're extremely short chapters, only a couple pages, and the references are extremely out of date, but I do remember Loni Anderson and Raquel Welch, so they still work for me. The strategy and perspective on the game are timeless though, and since the game hasn't changed, neither has the value of his work. Some of his strategy doesn't appeal to me initially, and some is right up my alley, and lots come back around after I see something in live play, then figure out why the person did that, and I end up back re-reading some chapters.

I hope he is well and still enjoying his trips to the casinos.

I have had that book for ever and have just reread it a few months ago. It's worth the time to read. I also have reread Sam Grafstein's book the Dice Doctor Revised and Expanded they are the classics of craps play.
Cheers
