Two questions

Setting and influencing the dice roll is just part of the picture. To beat the dice you have to know how to bet the dice. Whether you call it a "system," a "strategy," or just a way to play - this is the place to discuss it.

Two questions

Post by Seattlerick » Tue Feb 26, 2019 4:33 pm

Hi guys, have been reading master professors blog lately. Question one is....have any of you actually played with this person and ifs he as consistent as his reports indicate ???? Question two is.....if the answer to question 1 is yes, why don't more of you use his betting system ( slimmed down to your bankroll ) ????? It seams he is a perfect example of how to win money if you have an advantage. It is pretty straight forward, five hits before pressing, maximum bets only on selected numbers, no hard ways, ats, fire, horn or field bets. Anyone got answers ???

He's a myth. No way the guy exists posting about his supposed exploits and nobody has ever met him.

By Master Professor, I assume you mean Mad Professor aka Tino Gambino aka ?? I've never met MP in person. I have corresponded with him via this forum's PM service. He was always cordial and provided an interesting insight into the game. I've always found his writings to be an entertaining read. His book (available from the Dice Coach or Amazon) "Mad Professor's Craps Shooting Bible" has some great information in it when it comes to DI. He used to be very active on this forum and his own. He fell off everyone's radar a few years ago. The story is he's now travelling the world with Mrs. MP.

FYI: Yes, I have played craps with MP twice, abet, I did not know who he was at the time. I had to put two and two together to figure it out, emailed him and he said I was correct.
The first time, he was at the end of an empty table at the Four Queens with a load of chips. I pulled up beside him and got four reds for a $20. This was back in the 70's or 80's. Anyway, the dice passed to me and I flung the shit out of them and got a point, dice returned, a couple of tosses and I made my point. He was betting heavy on the don't and DCs and DP. I cleaned his clock by tossing a hand with 8 PL winners, none was a seven, each was a point and point made. After the 6th point, he had had enough and got a towel to cover his chips and he went to the men's room. When I sevened out, I left.
The second time was several years later I was at the Golden Gate and was watching the barge table. He walked in, watched the game for a couple of minute, went to the dealer hook and layed $100 no ten on the shooter. Couple of tosses, shooter sevened out, he went to the cage and was gone. He was the same person that was at the Four Queens years earlier. How do I remember that? He was very neatly dressed both time with high dollar slacks, shoes, shirt. That doesn't happen much in LV where folks tend to dress down quite a bit. Anyways, yes, he does exist and neither time did I say a word to him and this was years before I found DI (around 2000 or so, ask Heavy.) At that time, he lived in LV. He moved to Canada some time later.

I know MP's real name, where he lived, what he did professionally other than craps, and a few other details. I don't disclose any of this because he wanted his anonymity. I do know several folks who have met and played with him - particularly some of our Canadian players who hang out at Casino Niagra, where he liked to play in the wee (2AM - 3AM) hours. Irish spoke with him several times in the early years, when MP had a blog on the original dicesetter.com website and there were some problems with the originality of some of his articles. Something else I won't go into. For sure, MP had a lot of time and a knack for doing research and converting that research into verbose articles on craps, gambling history and gaming tourism. His Las Vegas Ghost series is a prime example. I should have some issues with him on a few things, but I've let them slide because of his greater contributions. His Crapshooting Bible is the best Dice Control book on the market and one of the reasons I never bothered to finish one myself. There's not really a lot more to be said.

In my last exchange with MP - right after his Dice Institute site went dormant - he told me his wife, who had fought a long battle against breast cancer, had finally been declared cancer free and that he and she were shutting everything down and were going to spend the rest of their lives traveling. I'm assuming they still are. I wish them luck wherever they are.

Yeah, I only talked to MP through email. Seemed like a nice guy - very responsive and helpful.

As a matter of fact, I was talking with MP at a time that I was putting together a potential crew to shoot for a whale that was landing in LV (Scout was a part of that - how ya doing, buddy?)

I have no problem with what MP wrote about craps. In terms of his breakdown of the game and mathematical analysis, I have never read anybody better.

What I did have issue with was his mythical lifestyle of huge craps wins, comped dinners and free tickets thereafter to all the best concerts and sporting events. I will always call bullshit on that side of his life as any person really doing that would be very prominent and very well known to many members on this board.

I PM-ed with MP on multiple occasions on multiple topics when he was active. Though we never met, I always found him insightful on the game and he always showed a willingness to help others.

As to your second question, yeah I've toyed at lengths with the CT-SL; tweaked it to my preferences after scaling it to my bankroll. I know others here have used his ISR theories and hopefully they will chime in.

I hope he & "Ms MP" are enjoying their travels. Perhaps one day our paths will cross, N8

MP was probably the main reason why I checked this site everyday. His posts were entertaining with the different font sizes, and colors. He always answered a question with a detailed answer when he could've just said yes or no. I do miss him and hope all is well him and his wife.

Just for the record, the second reason always to check the site was hoping that Irish was fighting with someone, especially when it was over the "system".

Scout: When writing about craps, plagiarism is just about a given because anyway one looks at craps, it is a finite game that has been around for thousands of years so writing anything original is just about impossible. Why are there hundreds of books on craps and basically not an original thought in any of them? Because we keep rediscovering things written before we were even born. Take one element of craps: the math. How in the world can there be anything new in math? Well, that might be possible with this idiotic common core math that nobody will ever use. Rediscovering past observations is a given in this game.

Well the math is changing before our eyes, as casino play games with payouts, add new carnival bets and change odds. Once in awhile we actually benefit.

I made that comment to a friend the other day regarding this topic.
Like discovering a new strategy in chess. I think what PO most people about MP was that he knew that truth doesn't need anyone's belief to exist. I think he found something in craps that wasn't about the money. To the best of my knowledge, he never bragged about what he was making, just reported it. He didn't teach, he let you learn and those that do that are the best teachers.

I'm reading The Mad Professors Crapshooting Bible by Tino Gambino, and I agree with Heavy, it's one of the best books on Craps. I've already gotten more than my money's worth from it. Beau Parker ( the Dice Coach) sold it to me with two other books as a set. Excellent information throughout.

Irish never really discussed his personal issues on the forum, although he did discuss them somewhat on his FaceBook page. He had a bout with stomach cancer a couple of years back. It's as cured as such things can be, but this particular type of cancer has a way of cropping back up in other places so he's keeping a close eye on it and still having maintenance meds along the way.

While dealing with the whole health thing Thom made a decision to focus more on family and less on things that were of less importance - particularly things that he viewed as potential negatives. No doubt some of the arguments on the forum were negative forces. But it's no secret that although he and I are good friends and remain so - we butted heads on many issues - particularly on political topics. In any case, Irish elected to back off on posting on the forums and focus more on family. Faced with the same situation I would probably do the same. Accentuate the positive - eliminate the negative. Somebody should write a song. Thom does still check in on the forum and read the posts here regularly. I can see in the admin panel where he's logged on and off. Hopefully he knows that we appreciated his arguments. They helped keep us centered in an otherwise goofy world.

The dice institute forum is still up. It's essentially DOA. There are a couple of guys who post over there occasionally - one of whom is one of the few, the proud, the you really have to be a dickhead to get busted from this forum ex members of this board. But it's really not worth the effort of visiting except to read MP's archival posts.
