The Soyonara Bet

Setting and influencing the dice roll is just part of the picture. To beat the dice you have to know how to bet the dice. Whether you call it a "system," a "strategy," or just a way to play - this is the place to discuss it.

For me, it's loose change on some hardways for myself and the crew. Look to be aggressive with a parlay and walk for sure if one hits and don't sweat it one bit if the next shooter goes PSO.
I do the exact thing, and I’ll rip the dealers a small percentage of what’s over my intended winnings.

Since I see them at least twice a month, it’s important for me to take care of them.

S-A-Y. Sayonara, Heavy. If I'm lucky enough to pass my win goal, usually my "bet" becomes part of the tip. I waffle between tipping as I play, and holding off until I color up. I'll tip as I play when I'm doing really well, and mostly only tip at the end if I'm not. If I don't leave with all of it, the dealers get the remainder. I won't "double down" against the house. Me or the dealers only. Givin' the house another chance is the same as "if I don't rack it, it's free play".

Also, I don't have a "see ya later" bet that I'll wait around for... Once in a while if I have odd change and we're all already paid, with a $3-9's odd money, I'll bet a prop or the ATS for the dealers.

Yeah, I'm pretty much in the same boat. I do try to tip a buck or two after each stick change. When I color up if I have any odd dollar chips left I toss them in as well. If I'm coloring up after a particularly good hand I may tip more. However, it's important to note that other then rewarding the dealers for good service (if it was good) a toke at the end of your session does nothing to assure continued good service. A toke given during your session will benefit you if you get into situations where there's a dispute over a bet, for example, as the dealer is more likely to side with you. I've long said that every dollar I've ever toked has come back to me in one form or another.

To quote the Pope: "Bingo!!!" B-I-N-GO in trillion font. Craps is the one place I tip where I see the concurrent influence of my actions. I tip for good service... I'll tip food servers, I've tipped auto body men and auto painters. I've tipped a metro bus driver in Japan. The service writer at the tire center. Nowhere else but the casino can I see gratitude from my tipping. All others function as reward; craps tips during play work more like "benevolent" gratitude in both directions--between me and the crew.

I've had dealers vouch for bets I *thought* but didn't make (by my betting history)--that is, I've missed placing odds (up to 10x) on the PL and got paid on a bullfrog with the odds in my hand. "Shit. I didn't get my odds out before the dice moved." After a real short conference between dealer and box, I'd get paid. It's happened a couple times over ~4yr. All kinds of faux pas I've made get paid in my favor. The boxman's cleared my target area for me at the Palace.

I'll walk up and wait to buy in... "Watch the table for a while, Brian... we're getting absolutely killed here."

Like you infer, wise tipping always pays the player back.

Did the metro driver in Japan gladly accept your tip? I've never been there but read that it's not really a custom over there and sometimes may be refused.

LS, here's my answer. Too long for this post and doesn't belong here.
