Buying the 5 and 9

Setting and influencing the dice roll is just part of the picture. To beat the dice you have to know how to bet the dice. Whether you call it a "system," a "strategy," or just a way to play - this is the place to discuss it.

Buying the 5 and 9

Post by Irukanji » Sat Oct 28, 2017 6:01 am

Toss the dealer a green chip and you ask to buy the 5 or 9 for $24 and the house gets their $1 vig. So total outlay would be $25 but you get paid $36 on the win whereas you get paid $35 on a $25 place bet.

Buying the 4 and 10 is common. Do any of you buy the 5 and 9?

I have found that a lot of the casinos in Vegas only allo bus on the 4 or 10. In Tunica I use to buy the 5 or 9 at $16 dollars. Several times I have reminds Heavy of that in some past posts.

If I remember from past posts on this subject around $60 is the starting point to consider buying the 5/9. At 60 you are risking $3 to make $6 ( 60 pays 84 on place and 90 on buy with $3 vig). I personally don't consider buying the 5/9 until the $100 level (risk $5 vig to make $10).

Scout, yes I was basing this on paying vig upfront. Most of my play is in Shreveport in LA and all the casinos there require the vig upfront. I can see the benefit at a lower level paying the vig only on a win.

I first encountered this in the MS gulf coast casinos, and take some credit for importing the rule to Albuquerque,NM :-)

At Santa Ana, they charge $1 vig up to $30. Isleta and Route 66 charge $1 up to $20, all collected after the bet wins.
