Bigger DC after small CO PL is a nice hedge

Post by mrmidi » Tue Jan 08, 2019 5:50 pm

I've had much success on randies but you need a hefty bankroll and have to know when to pull bets down or walk. So I start with a $10 PL and wait for a box number. Let's say a 5 comes. NO odds yet. Wait for another box number to show - I have been saved more times than not by waiting because the infamous PSO happens more than not, especially on a cold table. SO after I see another box number (if the point bull frogs, I start again),
I then put up a $100 DC with a $7 YO hedge and pray I get past the 7 to give me $93 on a DC number to work with. The PL $10 now gets 3x odds,
and I place $10 (or $12 on 6/8), on other 4 numbers I'm not on. Idea is to collect on 3 hits and down but sometimes if the DC traveled to a 4 or 10 I'll go for 4 hits and down even pulling down the DC so it doesn't get picked off - Yes the DC gets picked off sometimes (that's gambling) but more often than not there will be a 7 out where you made a few bucks or even better, you got a few hits, then 7 out.
If the DC gets killed with a 7 before it travels (happens sometimes and I replace it once. If it happens again, I stay off that shooter. Hopefully I am up enough to recover. Then again, sometimes it pays with a 2 or 3 before it travels. And sometimes after 3 hits and down on place numbers I'm on, I'll leave the DC up and hope for a CO 7. Especially if the shooter hits the point. Now a new $10 PL and the DC sitting on a no 9 for example - everybody wins with a CO 7.

Dont pull down the DC. Just place it for an amount you win regardless. ie buy the 4 for $70.

There's a reason why DP/DC bets are not contract bets like their Pass/Come cousins. It's because that once the bet travels to a number, the odds of it winning are in the player's favor. The house would love for you to take that bet down. Don't do it.

I played next to a guy that took down his DC when it was a 6 or an 8. I offered to buy those bets off him.

Thanks everyone. You are right. After a few hits on place nums I'm on, I'll pull them down, then place the same num the DC is on for the same or close to same $. A guaranteed win if the number hits and a push or tiny win if it's a 7 out. I think in many many sims on the computer, it usually 7's out when it remains up so it pays off. But in live play It gets picked off just as many times. Great advice.

I've had people allow me to buy there PL 6/8 they were going to take down.

Been a while since I've had the chance though.

Ever try this one? $20 DP, get a number,$10 come bet. On a seven out, you get two wins at once. Come bet moves to a number, take odds..repeat and rinse.

Oh yeah..have to add my two cents regarding taking down DP or DC bets. So you have a DC up there on a 6, right? And the shooter starts hitting some numbers. You can, of course, place the 6, but I will just say what works for me a lot of the time. If no seven shows in 3 rolls after I get a DC, and the shooter is making numbers all around me. I will take it down or place it. I give it three rolls. Yes, I don't win if a seven shows after..but I don't lose either.

Hi,
I suggest never taking down a DP or DC once it's on point. After bucking past the sheriff and the deputy, it's earned a decision, lol. So, if it looks like things are warming or you're at your "count" trigger - always place that number instead, as a push always beats a loss. Taking down the don't bet makes you the casino's best friend.

For that $20 DP mentioned above: place $18 when it's a six or eight (win $20 or $21, net $0 or $1); for a five or nine - place $15 (win $20, or $21); for a four or ten - place $15 (win $20(net +$5) or ($27, (net $7)).

Cheers, D.N8r

If you need to hedge your DP with a $7 yo, then your DP is too big. You are playing one of the best bets on the table and then adding a side dish of one of the worst.

why not hedge the DC with a Lay on the 10 until you start working a DC play. Lose on the DC but win on the lay if a 7 shows. Odds of losing the 10 are small but thats gambling.

This is true. I do however, hedge the 11 after a two or three is rolled. I picked up a win before the DC has been set, and I do not want to give it back.

I've never been a fan of laying the four or ten to protect a DP. I leave it naked. Maybe its just me, but for this example of a $20 DP I don't want to lay $41 on the No 4/10. I'd rather replace the DP with a second DP at say $35 (or $36 for the OHCM). Nor would I then further do a John Patrick and hedge the lay with a $5 hardway. I guess it depends on where you want the gamble, for me I stay at the line and replace the DP with a bigger DP as a base for a OHCM play, D.N8r
