Where's the Dark Side Love ??

Post by DarthNater » Thu Mar 30, 2017 8:47 pm

I see there hasn't been a post on the Wrong Way Wall since March 1st....... time to change that.......

So, lets hear it dudes & dudettes....... where are your favorite dark side venues.....

I'll start.....

1) Charles Town, WVA - now replaced by MGM National Harbor - can't beat the 20 minute drive vs an hour & 20 min; and those tables adjacent to the cashier cage are bouncy and lots of people milling by makes it worse ( er.... better)
2) Margarita-ville at the Flamingo - coulda been first place if it didn't require a plane ticket for me.... scout the table or not - this baby ain't never been to the tropics
3) The land barge at the Golden Gate downtown - must be the reason the bridge is painted black in their logo......
4) Dis-honorable mentions.... Fiesta - Henderson & The Borgota (still not enough of a reason for me to go to NJ)

You know dark siders are, by nature, a quiet lot. You are the exception, DN.

Were not quiet by nature, it's a case of no one wants to talk to us at the tables. LOL

My favorites.

Tulalip (to-lay-lip), Resort & Casino, Marysville WA, good tables with a number of don't players. The dealers are on top of the don't side, makes for easy play.

The Snoqualmie Casino, Snoqualmie WA, friendly place, good group of regulars. No one cares how you play!

The rest of the tribal casinos in WA are geared towards the PL side

This month I'm going to make multiple exploratory treks to Shreveport/Bossier. Although I used to know pretty much everyone who plays or deals over there - I play the market less than I used to (believe it or not) and I need to reacquaint myself with some of these folks. In particular I'll be looking for skilled shooters for a potential team play over there. Not the first time I've done this and it's very difficult to pull off due to the personalities involved. But, being retired now I have time to play around with it. Hopefully something will come together. But back on topic - on these exploratory trips I'll be predominantly playing the Don'ts - particularly at joints like Diamond Jack's and Boomtown. I'll likely play one hit - can't miss in the other joints. And I might play a variant of the one-hit can't-miss play where you bet the sister of the point instead of the six/eight. Have not tried that in live play yet but I have a feeling it's going to be a winner.

What is the theory behind playing the sister of the point? I haven't tried that one myself.

Just a casual observation that a large percentage of shooters hit the sister number before a decision is reached on the point. Plus I like the One Hit - Can't Miss play a lot. This is just a twist on it. And instead of betting two numbers on the right side - I'm only betting one. Less exposure to the seven there while waiting for the first hit.

I haven't run any simulations on it, but the play I'm considering is basically $25 on the DP. Establish a point, then place or buy the sister number - four and ten for $20 - five and nine for $20 - six and eight for $24. If I get knocked off my Lay bet I'll either run some sort of recovery play on the odds on the next DP - OR - go into charting mode looking for seven indicators on the next hand. When I see one I'd toss out a fairly decent lay bet against the point.

I'm actually working on getting this play down on paper at the moment - to include "rules of the road" on recovery stage. As I get older I find that I "learn" new strategies better by committing them to paper.

Good question. There are a couple of things (beyond a "disturbance in the force") that I'm looking for before tossing out that big Lay bet. If I've been charting (and writing rolls down) I'm looking at the trend over the last few shooters. Specifically, how long were the hands, what were the points they were trying to make, and how far apart are the sevens coming. Let's say, for example, that I look at the trend (or history if you will) and see that for some reason the last couple of shooters have tossed a trash number (2, 3, 11, 12) just before sevening out. That's a trend indicator for me. (For others it's just a 17% occurrence, but it is what it is. You use the information you have or not). Or let's say that three hands back the guy tossed 5 numbers and out. The next guy tossed three and out. The next guy went PSO. The sevens are getting closer. In this case I'd probably bet $25 on the DP but hedge it by Laying the four or ten for $41 - because I think the seven is probably due on the Come out. OR, I might bypass the Come Out altogether and once the point is established, LAY against it. And in this case that would probably be a significant lay bet. Of course, the disturbance in the force stuff works for me as well, so if the cocktail server interrupts the shooter or new money hits the table and stops the game or some other negative chi stuff comes to pass - lay the point for $120 or whatever. What's the worst that could happen?

By the way, I tested out this strategy on the home table earlier this afternoon. Ran through six random shooter with dice tossed by yours truly -not setting - just pick 'em up and wing 'em. Net win was $123 for six shooters. Beats the hell out of digging out of a hole. I will refine this somewhat and give it a shot next time I'm in S/B.

I've played the sisters before, usually wait to see them hit before betting on them though. I've also done okay with placing the 5, 6 when 8, 9, 10 is the point and 8, 9 when 4, 5, 6 is the point, one hit, take down. I did the successfully at Greektown Detroit last night at the bubble craps, Was treading water and noticed these hitting. Made about $75 playing $5 DP and $5 or $6 on the two place numbers.

BTW, 6 tables open, all $15 or $25, all full. That's why I was playing $5 Bubble craps!

Thnick,

Re "What is the theory behind playing the sister of the point? I haven't tried that one myself. "

I use that play a lot - I've called it "Sleeping with the Dark Sister". I use a pretty simple trigger - if I see the sister hit by two shooters in a row - then I bet the sister. I've kinda combined it with the One Hit-Can't Miss as just lay odds to the DP. If the sister hits - I generally take down the lay; though have left it up if already had a hit on the 6 or 8.

Holy cow!

I just relocated to the Seattle metro area for work, and Snoqualmie has been my home away from home! I'm there Friday and Saturday nights, until the family comes up LOL

I went to Tulalip last weekend, it's nice...albeit a bit smoky.

Favourite venues:

Palace Station, Las Vegas, NV - My literal home away from home. I stopped in there on my way up to Seattle from Dallas, and got to stay a couple of days.

DiamondJacks, Bossier City, LA - I love how laid back this place is, plus I always make good money on craps and (especially) blackjack.

Sandia Casino, Albuquerque, NM - Also stopped here on said roadtrip...very nice casino. Also, they have darkside-friendly tables with dealers that are on top of their game.

Grand Victoria Casino, Elgin, IL - The lone bright spot in a city that never recovered from the Recession. VERY darkside-friendly. I cleaned up the last time I was there (table full of darkside players).

Wild Horse Casino, Pendleton, OR - Another great place, mostly because they have $2 BJ that I can go to while taking a break from shooting dice.

My favorite places to play the Darkside are any casinos that have a craps table.

I prefer playing either casino Tuesday through Thursday, less mayhem and smoke. The regular players are inclined to stay away from the casinos on the weekends. Makes for some sanity, if sanity is possible playing craps.

Wow, liking all this dark side love..............

Rolled thru my fav MGM National a few days ago, and lo and behold of the five open tables there were darksiders at each of the five. So after numerous trips to there being the sole darksider; there are now allies. Profitable allies...... pick the table with the most darksiders and pile on.....another win

Keep those favorite venues coming, see ya at the tables, D.N8r

I'm tempted to start playing during the week. I might check it out before the fam comes up here in a couple of weeks.
