Re: Interesting Study
I can understand how every optimistic grad student thinks that they are going to come up with a fresh, new way to debunk the gambler's fallacies with such clarity that it will cause a collapse of casino gaming and usher in a new utopia. And then someone reads and and replies "Well yeah, obvious...

Re: buying the 5 and 9
Even on a $20 bet, buying saves you $1, right? I think a lot of people just don't like to bother with it. If the house makes the dealers flag the bet with a buy button they certainly aren't going to encourage it.

Re: Casinos with low/zero vig on place bets
The last time I was at Santa Ana they no longer paid triple on both the 2&12 (only triple on one of them), and had also backed off of the extra prop bet payouts but I don't play those so I can't say what exactly changed. Free 4&10 is still the rule at Santa Ana and several other area casinos...

Re: Blackjack - The game most craps players love to hate
Stand on 16's a wise idea? streaky game it seems, any tips besides learn basic strategy or learn to count. My english teach used to say that if you knew the rules it was ok to break them (meaning she could do whatever she wanted, but if we tried it our grades would suffer). Betting on streaks or ag...

Re: How would you use a craps "Mulligan?"
I would bet everything I had (or the table max) on the 4 or 10, with the no-seven token. Let it ride to the max until you lose the token, then revert to normal tournament strategy. I wouldn't rule out a hardways bet, though. I'd have to play out a few scenarios to see if that could be a better angle...

Re: Is 20% win realistic?
But it is important to know that your craps play is "entertainment" because with a $200 win goal and a $200 buy-in you will certainly see an overall decline in your total bankroll over time. Over time, what will affect your bankroll is whether you're playing with an advantage. Ideally, yo...

Re: Do you toke the dealers? If so, do you have a toke strat
“ BRAND ” your tokes to get improved tolerance-mileage This is an unconventional idea, but one that I think has a tremendous amount of merit. This is a really good idea. I've done this a little without thinking about it, and seen my tokes be more visible when it happens, but haven't made a concerte...

Re: Custom Layout for our Apt-size Table
Brilliant! Does the table itself come apart for storage? Or do you just take it off the stands and lean it up against a wall?

Re: Realistic expectations for skilled shooters!!!
No, making your move based on statistics is more science [math to be precise] than gambling. My point was just that I don't think it's a valid use of statistics to use the results of a few previous rolls to indicate what will happen on the next roll. Overall, with a lot of data, you could certainly...

Re: Realistic expectations for skilled shooters!!!
Ok, cool, that all makes sense. So then it seems like most every bet on the table is a bet on what is going to happen on the next roll, not on the next 10 rolls. The firebet/all-tall, etc are exceptions, and the pass-line bet is a contract, but for every other bet on the table you are betting on the...

Re: Realistic expectations for skilled shooters!!!
Right, so if the shooter is skilled you hope that you have an edge on some of the bets on the table. It seems like your question was how your edge changes over the course of the roll. I operate under the assumption that if the shooter's skills don't change (tired, sloppy, or for the better after get...

Re: Realistic expectations for skilled shooters!!!
You guys have obviously given this a lot of thought, but I'll just throw out one more example: The number of hands that will make eight hits is obviously more than the number of hands that will make ten hits, so that's easy. I would say, though, that if you limit yourself to the group of hands that ...

Re: Realistic expectations for skilled shooters!!!
Ok, MP, I'll try an experiment in my practice. I'll record how many consecutive non-sevens I can roll, and I'll test this 15 times. I expect the answer will be pretty close to random because of how my practice rig is set up. I'll be using the hardways set. Then, I will count my non-seven rolls again...

Re: Realistic expectations for skilled shooters!!!
Or maybe... If the shooter is throwing the dice randomly, there is a 1 in 6 chance that you will lose all your bets on the next roll. On the roll after that, the odds of losing all your bets is still 1 in 6. If the shooter rolls 20 numbers, the odds on the next roll is still 1 in 6. If this were not...

Re: Changing focus
If you are throwing well enough to have an advantage, and you start your bets on the numbers that have proven results, I think it's possible to really overthink the betting during your roll. I expect it would be hard to demonstrate a long term advantage of different betting patterns over just flat b...

Re: Regression Betting, any opinions?
One problem with placing all the numbers is that the house edge you are facing on each number is probably not the same. If I am in a situation where I can buy 4,5,9,10 (and pay the vig at the end) then I will bet all the numbers and shoot the crossed 2s. All the bets have roughly the same edge, and ...
