vig vs put bets

Pure spitballin' here. I play exclusively in Mississippi where the minimum odds allowed are usually 20x Odds. Normally, the vig on a Place bet is paid on the win, not up front, and the buy starts at $20. I'm wondering if I can avoid the vig AND get true odds. I'm researching a conversion system from...

Re: Should I use Come bets to replace Place bets?

Thanks, Guys. "Too much vig to start."... For Irish and Heavy--in a Place to Come strategy starting with only the Inside numbers, would you build out to include the 4/10, or ignore them until they're hit? Or would you not consider the 4/10 until your Odds progression on the Inside has reac...

Re: Progressing 6&8 to all inside numbers.

I'd use Plan B; $10 5 on the first hit and then bet the nine on the next hit. Th'only reason I'd prefer that is with the 5/6/8 covered, half the boxes are filled giving me one more chance to get a paying hit. I know that statistically the favorites are the 6 & 8, but if the 5 hits "empty&qu...

Re: Should I use Come bets to replace Place bets?

Years ago a computer expert who was also a craps player ran thousands of trials on various strategies based on actual in casino rolls. I don't recall who did it - it may have been Winkless but I'm not sure. I have the guy's book around here somewhere. Anyway, what he came up with was this. Play the...

Re: Should I use Come bets to replace Place bets?

In MS, a place to come strategy is not as advantageous as it might be in other places since many places do auto buys on 5 and 9 as well as 4 and 10 place bets starting at $20 and the vig is paid on the back end. No need for the come bet "tax" when that additional come bet amount could be ...

Re: Should I use Come bets to replace Place bets?

Hey Dork, I know irish and MD play a place to come strategy occasionally. It's in a thread(s) somewhere on the site. Check out Rappin Captain's Exponential Betting thread. It is a come bet play, but certainly a good read to his reasoning for the play. The coast allows put betting. That might be an ...

Re: Should I use Come bets to replace Place bets?

Is that something to consider seriously, Noah? I didn't know that's what it's called, and it didn't occur to me that it's fee is "double" because it doesn't get a chance at the Natural payoff, but it seems such a small "tax" to square up the Odds bet for 3-2 instead of playing th...

Should I use Come bets to replace Place bets?

I use electronic craps play to rehearse betting strategies. I came upon an idea and haven't seen it offered here (maybe I just missed it) and wonder why/if it hasn't been posted before... There are place betting schemes and Come betting schemes. One of the more common place betting schemes is some v...

Thanks, A. I didn't mean the original post to be a query about betting schemes. I meant for it to be more of an information/advise post about how to prep for betting and receiving payouts in just the situation you describe, where I as the player haven't drilled the familiarity of sequences to a rote...

Thanks, LS! That was a good read. There's lots of other info in that thread, too, but I'm glad to see the confirmation that I remembered my discussion with the dealer correctly.

dork, you can also find several threads in the archives about the order in which bets are paid. Thanks, Irish. My Google-fu is weak. I couldn't figure out a satisfactory search parameter for our site. What I typed was what I remember and I thought I'd post it for guys who didn't know. For anyone to...

Re: I'd like to start a topic Heavy can update as a single post...

Thanks, Guys! I use an unusual parlay progression on the 5/9 AND the 4/10. They don't repeat, and I've played them out to the "limits" so rarely sometimes they're hard for me to remember--especially when I've been away from the tables for a month or two... I'm thinking to resort to a cheat...

Re: I'd like to start a topic Heavy can update as a single post...

Thanks, N8, that's a great suggestion. I know my numbers out to the 5x parlay now for all the boxes but that's a great tip about assembling the chips as the bet is being set.

if he sees fit. For us newbies. All the "old timers" have played for so long and made their favorite bets repeatedly so much, they don't think about what they've learned and see as "common sense". There's a subject I've not seen discussed that caused me embarrassment lots of time...

... A toke given during your session will benefit you if you get into situations where there's a dispute over a bet, for example, as the dealer is more likely to side with you. I've long said that every dollar I've ever toked has come back to me in one form or another. To quote the Pope: "Bing...

S-A-Y. Sayonara, Heavy. If I'm lucky enough to pass my win goal, usually my "bet" becomes part of the tip. I waffle between tipping as I play, and holding off until I color up. I'll tip as I play when I'm doing really well, and mostly only tip at the end if I'm not. If I don't leave ...

Re: Buying the Five and Nine

LS, I don't know why it trips them up. $24 (toss a dollar) "go to $60" is obviously not an overly common call. Almost without exception, every time I've done that with a dealer new to me, they double clutch, take my money, place 2greens and 2 reds and then pass the previous total bet to th...

Re: Buying the Five and Nine

I'm not sure if I'm gonna be a help or not. I was weened on Mississippi craps. I've never played craps outside of MS. When I was reading Grafstein and all the other books to learn the game I noted that they all discussed Place vs. Buy bets, but the likelihood of my traveling out of state and playing...

Re: How do YOU handle the Five and Nine?

I don't consciously "follow" singular numbers. I'll 'chart', but only in a very general sense--has the shooter kept the dice for >7-9 rolls? what numbers are rolling? (trash or places). I'm a real chicken little and don't bet much on randies unless the table's crowded, the AT is 2/3 filled...
